Creating 'the dog ear'

I've never been a very creative person. I can't draw, I could never color between the lines, and I have to check with my wife to know if I'm allowed to wear blue and black together. But since I've had children I've watched them create all kinds of things. From cardboard cars, to lego cities, and countless priceless pieces of, uh, art, their imagination runs wild and is so easily transferred to the nearest napkin. So I'm giving it a shot.

The hunt for fabric.....

My father once defined shopping as 'raking the hangars'. That awful screech you hear as someone hunting for the right size, the right color, or the right item moves hangars around on the metal poles where a garment lives its best life. So, instead of suffering the piercing sounds of the general public, I searched online. And to my somewhat suprise there was not as many wholesale fabric dealers as I suspected. Probably becuase a good seamstress (can I still say that) has to touch and feel a fabric before decided on the perfect swatch. Fortunately, for a nominal fee, I can have swatches shipped to my home and test them from the quiet that never exists when you have 4 kids. So, thank you, Mood Fabrics.

Time to sew.....

I know nothing about sewing. But somehow I have become the repairer of all things needing stitching in our home. So much so that for Christmas one year, my lovely wife gave me a sewing kit. Stuffed animals are my specialty, which I suppose bodes well for this project, however, hems are my worst enemy. 2 hours ago I couldn't have told you the difference between a backstitch and a cross stitch, but once again, the internet abounds with information. I hand stitch everything to start, but only because I don't own a sewing machine (for now), so don't judge - I'm a beginner - and I'm pretty sure I would have 8 stitches in my finger before I figured out how to turn off a machine.

The test.....

More to come on this, but 3 prototypes are currently ready for my two sons to test.
